Product Description

History: Ted Double Duty Radcliffe - so-called because he could pitch and catch - had a 30-year career in the Negro leagues, playing for over 15 teams. Radcliffe was one of black baseball's most popular players. The Black Barons were a part of the Negro American League.
History: In 1948, the Black Barons featured a precocious teenage outfielder named Willie Mays, who had already made a name for himself as a multi-sport star at Fairfield Industrial High School in nearby Fairfield, Alabama. Mays played for the Chattanooga Choo-Choos during the 1947 season but opted to play closer to home in Birmingham for the 1948 season, and helped the Black Barons defeat the mighty Kansas City Monarchs to claim the 1948 Negro American League pennant.

Birmingham Black Barons – Ebbets Field Flannels
History: While many Negro League clubs took their nicknames from their local white counterparts, the Black Crackers taking theirs from the Southern Association’s all-white Atlanta Crackers led to one of the oddest team names in baseball history. Both clubs shared Atlanta’s famed Ponce de Leon Park, where during the 1940 season the legendary Satchel Paige appeared in two games for the Black Crackers.
